Today the district is a peaceful, attractive, green neighbourhood with beautiful architecture and tree lined streets. Several of the cities attractions are nearby including the old city zoo Artis, the Hollandsche Schouwburg, the Tropen Museum, the Hortus Botanicus (botanical gardens) and the only windmill in the centre of Amsterdam, De Gooyer, home to the IJ Brewery. There are some fantastic bars, cafés and restaurants to be found in the area and Rembrandt Square in the city centre is just 15 minutes away by tram.
