Around the Vondelpark the area is in high demand, as it has beautiful streets with cozy corner shops and very nice restaurants. For your breakfast or lunch we highly recommend Bagels & Beans, located at Zeilstraat 64. From here you can just watch the life pass by you, as the water in front of here is still functioning as an important transportation route. If you want to go to a street that has all sorts of things and is vibrant with activity, go to Overtoom. Restaurants at this street include the Ethiopian restaurant Addis Ababa (number 337), and at number 415 Fondue & Fondue is a great establishment where you can enjoy some excellent food with a nice glass of wine.
A few blocks from Vondelpark you can find what would have to be the cultural epicenter of the city: the Museumplein city square. Two of Holland’s most amazing museums are located here. First there is the Rijksmuseum, a place that has such a delightful collection of all sorts of artists, but would have to be visited for the stunning paintings of Rembrandt, Steen, and Vermeer. The other one pays tribute to one of the postimpressionist movement: the Van Gogh Museum. All of the famous paintings can be found here. Also the Museumplein holds the big IAMSTERDAM letters, which you might have seen on pictures of fellow travellers to this spectacular city.
