The market is known as the busiest in the city and is home to a variety of traders from all over the world, selling exotic foods and clothes. It's a great place to spend a few hours and is open six days a week. The Artis Zoo is close to the apartment. Founded in 1838, this zoo has 17th century canal houses, a neo-classical aquarium and a butterfly conservatory. Renowned Dutch artist Karel Appel was born in Dapperstraat number 7, and the building now houses works by the artist. Rembrandtsplein, with a variety of nightspots including bars, cafes and clubs, is just a ten-minute tram journey away. You'll find a range of restaurants in the area, including Surinamese and Indonesian, reflecting the district's multicultural flavour.
