You will enjoy the quiet residential setting near a canal and love that you can pop into the main central areas very quickly on bus or tram. Amsterdam’s Eastern Islands were developed in the 17th century to house the shipping industry and today you can still get a taste of its past while seeing the grand buildings that were once used as warehouses but today converted into living and work spaces. Examples of such buildings are next door at the Werkspoormuseum, a short walk away at Het Scheepvaartmuseum and the building that is now the Oosterkerk church. Scheepvaartmuseum is the national maritime museum and worth a visit to see the replica of a cargo ship named Amsterdam. You can easily pop over to the Dam Square and Red Light District areas by a bus from your street and spend your days site seeing, canal cruising, shopping, eating or drinking. Amsterdam Centraal is also in that area and has a direct train to Schiphol Airport. The popular tourist hangout Leidse Square is a short tram ride away.
