Stay in Amsterdam’s Eastern Islands, on the edge of the city centre and have a quiet experience away from the big central crowds but close enough to all the action on foot, by bus 22 or by tram 10. This old industrial area is now a trendy neighbourhood with old warehouses turned into residential or office spaces, and set amongst local houses and businesses. Explore the area on foot and you will come across Het Scheepvaartmuseum with its replica of a cargo ship that the Dutch East Indies Company once used before it was shipwrecked in a storm. Walk into the neighbouring Plantage District to find Artis Zoo and the Hollandsche Schouwburg, or head into the Dapper area for browsing the stalls at Dapper Market. The bus outside will take you to Amsterdam Centraal in ten minutes and from there you can walk into the Red Light District or onto Dam Square; this popular city centre is filled with many great activities. Tram 10 will ensure a quick ride through the southern and western parts of the Canal Belt where Leidse Square sits.
