Amsterdam’s Eastern Islands were home to the shipping industry in the 17th century. The Oostenburg area that this holiday apartment is situated in was where the East India Company settled and built many of its large warehouses, rope storage and work halls. Many of these buildings were demolished while others were converted to modern living and work spaces. One of the more well-known of such buildings can be seen at the National Maritime Museum (Het Scheepvaartmuseum) that you can find a walk away. The neighbouring Plantage district which is just across the canal that runs near the apartment is a great place to visit for family friendly activities such as Artis Zoo, Hortus Botanical Gardens, the Jewish Cultural Quarter and other highlights such as the Royal Theatre Carre and Hermitage Amsterdam. Also neighbouring Oostenburg is the Dapperbuurt where you can buy fresh produce at the popular Dapper Market. Your street is serviced by buses and around the corner you can find a tram station.
