Location

By tram or bus you are only about 10 minutes away from the main tourist attractions. The Dam Square is located in the heart of the historical city of Amsterdam and offers you great entertainment in the form of historical buildings like the Royal Palace and the prestigious Krasnapolsky Hotel. The Royal Palace now belongs to the Dutch Royal family but was once the city hall of Amsterdam built in the 17th century.

When the weather is nice many locals and tourists come here to taste the typical atmosphere of Amsterdam. You can watch the street performers, feed the pigeons or even walk to the memorial. Every year on the 4th of May the Dutch commemorate the people who lost their lives during the Second World War at this memorial.

The Leidse Square is a lively part of Amsterdam popular with both tourists and locals. During the summer months you can see many street performers. From the middle of November until Christmas the square has an outdoor ice rink. So after you have skated with your partner you can have a drink on one of the terraces. This square has many clubs, bars and typical Amsterdam cafes. Order a Dutch jenever called a neut or borrel in Dutch.

But if you want to know more about the history of the Jews in Amsterdam then you must visit the Anne Frank House. This museum is dedicated to the Jewish girl Anne Frank who hid with her family from the Nazi persecution during the Second World War. Eventually Anne Frank and her family were deported to the German concentration camps with many other Amsterdam Jews who did not survive the holocaust.
