On the same square you can visit the Van Gogh museum to see his expressionist paintings like the two self portraits of this famous painter.

The Red Light District is the most popular tourist attraction of Amsterdam. It is a safe place to walk because the pimps want to protect their business. It is an area with small cozy streets with many small bars and small take-away restaurants. These Chinese restaurants have delicious roasted duck called Peking duck. But the Ladies of the Night are the main attraction. They sit behind large windows and they will try to lure you inside with their seductive smiles and sweet words. Go to the Central Station and take a train to other towns in The Netherlands to see more of the country. Delft is an old city with beautiful monumental churches and it is about 30 minutes away by train. Rotterdam is only about 40 minutes away and this city is totally different from Amsterdam. The centre of this city was bombed during in May 1940 so the centre was rebuilt after the war. You will find many modern buildings.
