The apartment is in the Oostenburg area where the Dutch East India Company (VOC) settled during the 17th century and the shipping industry. A few minutes on foot away is the Scheepvaartmuseum where you can learn about the Dutch maritime history and see the astounding replica of the VOC cargo ship that was called Amsterdam. For family friendly fun walk across the water to the Plantage district where you will soon find Artis Zoo, Verzetsmuseum, Hollandsche Schouwburg and the Jewish Cultural Quarter. Stock up your kitchen cupboards after a trip to the nearby Dapper Market where you can also buy inexpensive clothing and other bits and bobs. The bus outside goes to Amsterdam Centraal, Dam Square and the Red Light District so that you can have much fun day or night, and only a few minutes away. Tram 10 runs from around the corner and can take you to the popular Leidse Square and the Museum Square in about ten minutes.
